FaceJam is an innovative new way to organize and promote all types of local jams and open mics. For those that have been to jams before (whether to play or listen) it can some times be hit or miss. Either too many guitarists and not enough drummers or no singers or same singers every week singing the same old song. The driving force behind FaceJam is the Jam calendar. Jammers are no longer dependent on the luck of the draw as to when and if they will get to play.

Once registered you can sign up online up to a month beforehand to sing or play. The venue owner or house band will post the songs from our extensive (and growing) list of blues, jazz, classic rock, funk, punk and whatever. You sign up to play and once the jam’s administrator approves, the list is posted. Fans and venue patrons can visit the calendar without needing to register and see who’s playing and when. All the jams can be tagged and posted on Facebook. A great way to spread local music and create a buzz at your local music venue!

I am shocked that the board has turned down Ramirez-Lindemann for the Blues Festival on May 10th. David Lindemann and Richard Ramirez have 90 years experience all told, plus Richard won 3 years ago. Tucker Wyatt is an accomplished guitarist as is the drummer an accomplhed musician. Why would you choose to exclude hometown, homegrown guys whom all of us love to listen perform! Shame on you! I feel that you should go on bended knee asking them to join the festival! Wait til everyone hears about this!

My family has been remotely involved with the San Angelo Blues festival (as vendors) since the beginning. We have watched from the sidelines as this VOLUNTEER organization has worked their tails off to bring it to the reputable festival it has become today. I do know the bar is set higher and higher for musicians competing in the blues contest — with the end result producing THREE SEMI FINALISTS at that international contest in Memphis in 2013 and 2014. That is fantastic! The SABS has put San Angelo on the Blues map! We know Richard and David and enjoy their music — but this isn’t the same festival as in the early years. It is a BLUES festival, not a southern rock or country festival with some blues thrown in where everyone sings along to Margaritaville and a tired cover of Mustang Sally. If they want to play in a Blues festival, they need to step on up to the plate? And maybe stop blaming the blues society for them not making it to the main stage this year.

Thank you for your interest in blues music and the Simply Texas Blues Festival.

David Lindemann April 24, 2014 at 9:57 am

Dear A. West,

I think the blues demo ‘Rock Me Baby’ by Ramirez & Lindemann videoed at Sealy was an excellent choice to show the San Angelo Blues Society. It was even listed on the Blues entry form as a link. Maybe they didn’t see it.

Rock Me Baby” is a blues standard that has become one of the most recorded blues songs of all time.
And your rude remarks about Margaritaville, Mustang Sally and Southern Rock? Why would you say something like that?

The blues festival is a competition between local blues bands. I would like to know just how many local bands have been asked to competite? The Blues Society of San Angelo asks for support from the local community but does not support local blues bands. Seems something is wrong with this picture. Why not support your local blues bands? I am speaking on behalf of my friends Ramirez & Lindemann who were told they were not good enough to play in the Blues Festival. I believe they played last year and I think once a band has played they should be allowed to play every year after that. Only seems right to support your local bands.

BlueLu April 21, 2014 at 4:15 pm

Thank you for your interest in the Simply Texas Blues Festival. Actually the competition is for any applying band or solo/duo act. In past events we’ve had acts from as far away as Canada and Alaska. This year there are Texas bands/acts from San Angelo, Lubbock, Stephenville, Austin/Lago Vista, San Antonio and Monahans. I believe there are five bands from San Angelo.
Each year bands to compete are chosen by a committee after hearing the media provided by the band/act. My research back to 2009 does not have the band you referenced listed. The schedule with competing bands will be posted in the near future.
Again, thank you for your interest.

BluLu – Richard and I played with T Gozney Band at the Fest last year 2013. That was the one she was referring to I believe. Thanks

BlueLu April 23, 2014 at 2:03 pm

Gotcha….”Chivo Blues Band” thanks for the clarification, David.

Laura J April 23, 2014 at 3:40 pm

Those making comments against the Blues Society seem to be ill-informed. These Lindeman-Ramirez supporters may benefit this band better long-term if they focus their passion on something positive and productive. I suggest taking a long hard look at the entry form where the process is clearly outlined. In RED it states “There is a limited amount of space in the Blues Challenge 2014, therefore each entry must submit a CD, video or website link as example of it’s BLUES MUSIC with the application.” I suppose some bands took this seriously and chose carefully, while others didn’t. How in the WORLD is that the Blues Society’s fault?

Peace, love and Blues,
Laura Jane

And for David Lindemann to not take any responsibility for this publicly and help squelch the some of the nonsense coming from his camp is disappointing. Just sayin’.

David Lindemann April 23, 2014 at 11:30 pm

This is for Laura J.

Let me ask you just one simple question. This was a video I sent in of us at Sealy Flats to the San Angelo Blues Society for consideration in being accepted to the San Angelo Blues Festival May 10th, 2014.

This was an old BB King song and you are telling me this is not blues music or is this something people from San Angelo would NOT want to hear at your ‘Blues Festival’? We probably wouldn’t have even done this song at a contest. It was just a demo/example of what we could play.

This was your comment:
“I suppose some bands took this seriously (choosing blues songs for video) and chose carefully, while others didn’t. How in the WORLD is that the Blues Society’s fault?”

Well it IS your fault for not seeing this as a qualified entry. Don’t agree? Just ask some of our followers.

It also seems to me you do not even know who your local bands are. You should judge entries on live performances only and there are one or two members in the ‘Blues Society board’ who agree with me.

Richard and I have been playing the Blues, Blues Rock & Top 40 in San Angelo together for a grand total of about 70+ years and have been central in the San Angelo music scene for the same amount of time, grew up here, represented the city honorably throughout the decades of San Angelo music growth, have raised our families here.

I also don’t need someone to tell me to “help squelch some of the nonsense coming from his camp is disappointing. ” This is free speech and the people commenting on that post (which you just deleted) are very passionate about music.

You cannot just delete posts like that because you disagree… You are the one squelching us and only harming your reputation in San Angelo.

If this post is not approved I will resubmit tomorrow.

Thank you for your interest in blues music and live music in general. Not sure what the last paragraphs refer to. Posts are not knowingly deleted from this forum unless they are obscene, personally abusive or markedly out of date.

Jo April 24, 2014 at 9:49 am

For Laura…
…” just sayin’” doesn’t make it okay under any circumstance to make unkind comments. As far as nonsense goes, that is your opinion while obviously many others feel that RamirezLindemann have been slighted. Maybe I owe the Blues board an apology myself. However, many feel strongly about a hometown, homegrown, talented band not being a part of the competition. Even though it is not going to change the board’s decision, it hopefully will make them aware that their method of choosing needs to be tweaked. Feedback is invaluable.

David Lindemann April 24, 2014 at 9:27 am

The last paragraph was referring to a posting with 18 comments that someone from the Blues Society knowingly deleted because they must have had an issue. It was not offensive or vile in any way, only people stating how they felt and how many years they had known the band which spanned a period of over 40 years.

Whoever handles your Facebook page is well aware of what they did.

OK, gotcha….I am “webmaster” of this site and the policies I mentioned refer to this site. Just trying to determine this webpage was/was not what you were alluding to. Thanks for the clarification.
